The Olympics

Postby OfficiallyHaphazard on Sun Aug 03, 2008 3:36 pm

We all know what time of year it is, and that is Olympic Time

Compete in the games, and find out who is best!

Game players:
Follow the rules/spirit of the game, and post your entries below. If you do modify somebody else's design, credit them in your post. Also, note which game your contraption is playing.
For each entry, there is also a competition for steroid free athletes (i.e. Green entries).

Game makers:
Create a level that represents an Olympic events. Try to give an easy metric to score entries, preferably built into the level. Post the game and the rule set here, and if people like it, I will add it to the game list. A list of current Olympic games can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_sp ... nt_program
If possible, allow your entry to be green friendly.

(you can be both a maker and a player)

Let the games begin!

Events:
(Remember, the medals are not static... if you beat somebody's score, I will update the medals :) )

Sprinting http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=3807
Your contraption must only have at max of two appendages on the ground at any time and MUST be a walker. To finish, slide one of the blocks on the right all the way in, thus stopping the flow of balls. The number of balls in the pit is your time (so fewer balls is better). The Anti-steroid (green) machine does not have to be a walker, but must look like a runner.

Gold Medal: djcheme, 9: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=400827
Steroid free gold medal:

Shotput http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=1982
Attempt to throw the ball as far as possible. Your score is the number of yellow rods you clear, plus the one that you hit.

Gold Medal: Entity, with a perfect score: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=218200, Talos, modified Entity's design: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=400984
Steroid free gold medal: Sgt Superman (modified Entity's): http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=227277

Archery http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=2041
Throw the three balls at the target. Your score is the sum of where each ball hits. (Note: the arrows "balls" do not need to stay in the target, but do need to go fully in a slot). The points for the target go (from top to bottom) 1, 2, 3, 5, 3, 2, 1
Do not chain the balls together.

Gold Medal: Entity, with a perfect score of 15, and no balls rolling out http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=209172
Steroid free gold medal: Sgt Superman, 5: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=227535

Diving http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=1981
This entry is judged by how cool it is. Doing flips and tricks in the air gives you more coolness, and a good landing is also needed

Gold Medal: Elborbah, with an elegant jump, and a clean entrance into the pool: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=346397
Steroid free gold medal: Entity, with a score of "quite cool": http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=209755

Weightlifting http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=2061 (by onion)
Is your contraption the strongest in the world?
Use the bottom of the screen to measure how far you get in comparison to the markers on the right..

Gold Medal: Jizzo (tweaked Entity's), 13: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=368013
Steroid free gold medal: dish, with a score of 3: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=223568

Badminton http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=2089 (by HexOxide)
One point for each time you can pass the ball over to the other side of the court without it hitting a green wall, falling out of the the area, or knocking over the yellow marker in the middle. The red ball is allowed to touch the yellow marker, just not knock it over. You must build your two contraptions within the green markers on their respective sides, though they are allowed to move outside of this area once the contraption has started.

Gold Medal: Talos, 95 :!: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=374955
Steroid free gold medal: dish, 2: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=264877

Baseball http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=2059 (by HexOxide)
Scoring works like the shotput, only the ball is "pitched" to you and your contraption MUST use some kind of swinging arm to hit the ball.

Gold Medal: waketherabble, out of the park, http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3035826 (looks like some sort of glitch though...)
Entity, with 12: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=219287
Steroid free gold medal: dish, 3: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=277349

Field Hockey http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=2102 (by onion)
Simply get the ball into the goal as fast as possible. Shorter times will get a higher score.

Gold Medal: Kelloran, ~9 seconds: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=339082
Steroid free gold medal:

Shooting http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=2105 (by onion)
Build a contraption that shoot the goal balls at each of the falling targets. The more targets you hit, the higher your score will be.
If at one point more than one person is capable of hitting all five targets, then whoever uses less parts will have the higher score.

Gold Medal: Entity, with a perfect score: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=216585
Steroid free gold medal: dish, 2: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=229804

Biathlon http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=2433
Scoring is like archery, but your contraption has to run first :D

Gold Medal: NightStryke, 9: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=289993
Steroid free gold medal: djcheme, 10: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=710645

(Come up with more games to post below)

:D :P :D

Weightlifting event!

http://FantasticContraption.com/?levelId=2061

Is your contraption the strongest in the world?

Use the bottom of the screen to measure how far you get in comparison to the markers on the right..

EDIT: To judge the score, use the LOWEST POINT of the goal block to measure, so tipping the block over does not get you a higher score.

Fantastic Contraption Olympic Badminton:

Rules are simple, you require two contraptions for this event.

Each must be built within the two green markers on their side, no not anywhere outside of there.

If at any point the red ball touches a green wall it's out.

The red ball is allowed to touch the middle yellow marker, but it must not knock it over, if the yellow marker falls over, it is out.

You recieve one point each each consecutive hit of the ball until it is out, if the same contraption hits the ball twice in a row, it is out.

While the contraptions have to be built withing their side's green markers, the do not need to remain there once the match has started.

Have fun!

Im not sure I get the shot put event tho... throw ball as far as possible... gotcha, but number of rods that fell over? if you nudge the first one hard enough they will all fall so I don't get it :P

No, its "how many did you clear, plus the one that you hit". Doesn't matter how many fall over or don't fall over.

I see. "throw over" is rather ambiguous then. Thanks for clearing that up :P

Ugh, I got 20 on the shotput with a fairly simple catapult. I thought about saving it but I hadn't been working very long and I assumed I'd be able to adjust some things and beat it. I haven't been able to throw it that far again.

The interesting thing is it's not all about the power, you can have all the power in the world but if you're not directing that power in the right way, you wont get the trajactory you need, you could have the strongest burst of energy possible, but if it's going straight up it's no use to you, so you not only need to tweak the energy going in, but the throwing arm for where the energy is being directed so you can achieve the correct trajectory for the maximum distance.

Definitely. I had packed probably 10+ wheels in there linked together, and was only able to score 10 on the shotput. The machine that scores 17 has far fewer wheels.

Entity I like the diving entry, I made a similar one but lost it. Darn shallow water though.

Thats because the object of the high dive is not to get to the goal area. Its to build a contraption that 'jumps off' with style/grace/humor/whatever.
