The Fantasticly Fantastic Level Contest + Comp

Postby Hero88go on Wed Nov 04, 2009 6:41 pm

Ok, so I got this idea in school today. Let me explain.

So first, I will ask for you to pm me your level entries. Just say "in" and pm me your level.
These levels will then be judged by all the entrants. Yes, I know you will vote for your own, but you can't! :D

They will all be anonymous, so there is no biased voting. I will re-save them. DO NOT publish them.

All entrants must vote on the levels. If they do not, then there level will be disqualified.

You will PM Me your choices with a rating of each level on a scale of 1-10. I know some will just think "I will just vote them all down so I will win" Too bad that you have to have a rating average of at least 5, so this can't happen (Also you must have at least 2 levels over the rank of 7). What I mean by this is if you have "Level 1: 1. Level 2: 3" etc then you will have a rating average of 2. This is not eligible.

Once I get all the results, I will calculate the average of all the levels. The highest average will be the winner.
If by some chance there is a tie, the two (or more) competitors will make another level and repeat the process.

Pretty easy? Good!

Tips:

-Make a level the whole community will love, not too hard, not too easy

-Make sure your level has good aesthetics

-Try to make a new idea, something that has not been done before

And a Side game!

So, when the levels are posted, ANYONE has the option to solve each and everyone of them using the fewest pieces possible.
The deadline for this will be the same as the voting deadline. Once everyone has submitted, I will calculate the total pieces of your solves and the least pieces wins.

Format for Level Contest
Code: Select all

YourName
LevelLink

Format for Voting
Code: Select all
Level 1: score
Level 2: score

Format for Side Game
Code: Select all
Level 1: SolutionLink   #OfPieces
Level 2: SolutionLink   #OfPieces

Any entries not in this format will not be accepted

Deadline for levels is November 11th, so you have a week to get your levels into me.

Looks fun but a little confusing.. Do you have to do the side game? Do you have to have solved your own level?
I think I have an idea for a great level... I think I might enter, but don't don't expect me to understand it perfectly :(

Si we have to rate levels well, even if we think that they deserve a 1?

Wouldn't it be better if we had to give 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 (one of each) to the 10 best levels in our opinion?

yeah

to not be able to rate weak levels as weak kind of defeats the purpose - why dont you think everyone will rate fairly anyways?

other than that seems like a good idea

So, you make a nice level. submit it to you, then when the deadline comes we judge all the levels (not your own) following all those judging rules? right...

Could we have some more criteria on what we should judge the levels on? A level which is fun to solve is completely different from a level designed for a hap-style comp. I think it might help if we knew what kind of level to make.

Of course, you mentioned aesthetics and new ideas but what if our submissions came in categories? There could even be a section in the submission form where we describe the type of level. It could say something like, hap-style comp, pure fun + creativity, tick scoring, or challenging.

@Jonny: The idea is to make a good level that is creative and makes your mind jumble. I don't feel I should add a criteria as it will kill off some creativity. My "criteria" that I have is the Tips section. Just follow those and see Hap's Making A Good Level Thread.
@Enwir: Correct.
@Sparkle, As, Bob: Sparkle, I know people will do this because they have done it in the past. Not for my comps, just in general. Yes, you can rate levels down. I said the average, and I dont think the levels are going to be bad .
@Sander: Yes.
