Back to basics. Special teams. Line play. Avoid turnovers. Win.
3 levels this time.

Kickoff

Speed kills. Who has the better return game.
This is a speed comp level, not head to head.

Special teams

7 pts if the faster solve is 10 ticks faster than the slower solve
3 pts if the difference is less than 10 ticks

Offense vs Defense: Turnovers:
Make both an offensive and defensive design

Turnovers

on offense, protect the ball
on defense, attack it

Build areas:
Offense; to the left of the left hash
Defense: to the right of the right hash

Rules:
Whistle blows at 1500 ticks.
30 pieces for both sides, only 6 of them can be
Arrange the pieces however you would like within the build areas (does not have to be a single contraption)

Scoring:
7 pts for the offense: The ball still rests on the ghost dynamic untouched (you cannot hold it up there) at 1500 ticks
3 pts for the offense: The center of the ball is within the blue build area at 1500 ticks
3 pts for defense: The ball is not on the ghost dynamic or in the build area at 1500 ticks
7 pts for defense: You trigger a victory within 1500 ticks

Notes for this level:

Offense may intentionally knock the ball into the build area should they choose to
Submit one offensive and one defensive design.

Loose Ball:

Control the line of scrimmage.

Line Play

This is a PUSH level, not a pull level.
Drive your opponent into (and off of) the backfield

7 points Push your opponent off the field withing 350 ticks

Field Goal
3 points Push your opponent off the field after 350 ticks

Notes for this level:
Submit one design for this level.
If both machines tumble off the same side of the field, the winner is the player who has pushed across the line of scrimmage, even if his machine loses contact with the field first.
If both machines fall off opposite sides of the field, the winner is whoever lost contact with the field last.

Suggestion: consider not having seeding. The way things are set up right now, any new player will matched up against a hardened veteran in the very first round and most likely suffer a quick exit. This may discourage some of those new folks we need to entice into this great game. Suggest random matchups at least in the first round.

thanks for the input, guys.

I'll PM the other players tonight. See if we can smoke some of 'em out.

I'm inclined to leave the seeding. Just to give those who played the first time a little recognition. And a lot of this game is luck, coming down to how different approaches match up, how many chromosomes the cloned design is missing, etc, so I don't think the higher seeds really have a big advantage.

I think a noob (are there any at this point?) has a good chance to "shock the world"

Shaping up to be a great field.

Last couple of times we had a football comp, we had some FCers' outside of the USA say they didn't participate because "they didn't understand the rules of football". Let me say that this a push and throw comp against an opponent no different than a robot battle, the football part is just used for the theme and scoring (a difficult score is a touchdown - 7 points - and an easier score is a field goal - 3 points). There's no need to understand or enjoy football to have a blast in this comp. So come on, join. This means you, Kai and Rianbay, et al. It'll be a blast.

I agree with CJ.... this is very similar to the zombie comps.. you try to protect your area with defense, and score with the goal ball for offense.. These are so much fun because you have no idea what your opponent has in mind for his offense or defense.. its all fun and you have loads excitement when you push the start button after jompy post the match ups....every time it has my heart pounding with anticipation
I want to thank jompy for all the time and, work he has to do to put on this type of comp.

We're up to 10. If it started today we'd have 2 wildcard games followed by 3 rounds.

If someone from outside the US enters and wins, we can work out an alternate prize of the same value.
