Hap Masters: Results Up!

Postby compscure on Wed Feb 02, 2011 9:42 am

Last count, they had roughly 712 first place finishes and an iPod shuffle between them.
Care to challenge 3 of the best as they challenge each other?

jdel, ID36, and Cruiser invite you to brave the crossfire as they take each other on with a set of levels they made themselves.
Who will emerge as the Hap Master?

Rules:
The One and Only Hap! wrote:I Officially Present
The Haphazard Competition

Ok.. I suck at coming up with names, but that is not the point.
If enough people are interested I will post 3 custom levels, and everyone who wants to play will attempt to solve each level with as few pieces as possible.
Scoring will be like golf, where the lowest score wins, and is outlined below.

Not completing a level: +90

Each rod or stick: +1
Unpowered wheels: +2
Powered wheels: +4

Achievements:
A :green: solution: -10 or 1/2 your score, whatever decreases your score the most (use no powered wheels)
A :champ: solution: -5 (keep the ball in the goal)
A :boomerang: solution: -7 (bring all goal pieces back to the start area)
A :brown: solution: -4 (only rods/sticks used)
A :clean: solution: -3 (clear all remains of your machine from the stage)
A :sweep: solution: -3 (clear all dynamics from the stage)

Prizes include

* A customized Congratulations message :!: :!:
* Honor
* One (1) miracle. only redeemable at your nearest miracle redeeming kiosk
* Three (3) good dreams no purchase necessary; consume at your own risk

People should PM me their machines so ideas aren't stolen, and I will present them at the end.
Anyhow, let me know below if you would be interested (Note, you must have paid the 10 bucks in order to play the custom levels).

If it wasn't for all the snow shoveling, all these comps would be like hap hog heaven for me.

These levels are Yummy... thanks to the designers.

By the way, I think I can claim top score for M-cruiser. (hoping you won't prove me wrong...)

Ok... Finished elitist and bad badge, now I need to knock out the sub 500 tick comp, THEN I can get started here.

I got a pretty good solve for mine and Cruiser's. ID36 is stumping me so far.

Really? I found your level to be harder (in terms of badges) than mine. Interesting fact: I never play tested my level until compscure posted it in this comp, which made it kinda surreal 'cos it almost felt like I was playing someone else's level.

4 strong entries so far.

just a reminder, the build area does not show when it overlaps the goal area: http://www.fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=11412462

edit: another note. when it comes to champ and boomerang, I fall into the "nothing sticking outside the border" camp, not the "sliver of pink or blue" crew.

I'm having tons of fun with it now. I was just telling compscure that I've never played a level that found more ways to defy me of badges just when I think I have it done.

edit: On a side note, I want to say that I think you're level is the best of the bunch for a hap comp... Every badge is realistic with right give and take on a piece count. It's quite the tweaker... but I guess they all are.

edit2: finally got what I was going for. Time to submit my first entry.

I'm pretty sure I'm optimal on ID's and Cruiser's... I think I am on mine too, but I might be able to sneak another point out of it.
