If this were true, then I wouidn't have posted my rant.

There have been many instances of collaboration on various threads around here. I just don't see much of it when it comes to the simplest threads. Here's what I've seen on the "simplest" threads:
- Some posters never contribute anything original, they only modify someone else's designs.
- It's clear that people ARE trying to beat others with the OP's design.
- True collaborations share credit. Around here only the final design is recognized.

It's probably a minor point, but I have never put up with people that copy someone else's work or take credit for someone else's work.

I would like to point out:

WhyT wrote:I did it. Kinda.

I did a Boomerang on U-Turn in 9 Pieces.

Don't believe me? Click here.
http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=1640045 :boomerang:

Ok now for the kinda part.
I used Philnorv's 3 piece solution and added a ramp to achieve the Boomerang. So I will gladly share this award with him.

I take that back. Make that 6 Pieces.
http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=1640117 :boomerang:

Again sharing the spoils of my victory with Philnorv.

Tube, Brown Champion :brownchamp:, 17 pieces:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2007969

This was built using wildwolf's green catapult as a starting point:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=488126

As an illustration of the design process, I first made a 27 piece working version that got the ball to hang on the other side:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=1997171

Getting that to work took the vast majority of the time. Narrowing it down from 27 to 17 was a lot easier because I had already learned how tweaking each piece affected the trajectory of the ball. By the way, I was determined to find a brown champion solution to every level, and this was the last one!

Awash Clean in 18 pieces (note i stole the idea off MrZNF and added a blue bar for the balls to run down) :clean:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2014545

Here is his solution (17 piece :clean: which works fine for me)

Reach Up :cleanbrown: 6 pieces

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2015368

As hard as I try i can't get enough momentum with 5 pieces, maybe a combination of solid and water will help.

You can be clean and boomerang. It is where your entire contraption is gone and all that is left is the object piece in the work area with nothing attached to it.

I missed that in your original post. The only problem with your definition is that are so few levels that are possible, yet interesting to clean up. I just assumed that you were using the definitions from the original challenge threads.

The term "clean" from the Clean challenge thread meant to remove all FC pieces from the field. That thread produced "clean" or "clean champion" solutions. A subset of posts on that thread dealt with cleaning up the environment and I had alot of fun on that thread coming up with solutions to clean up the environment.

I hear you, in particular "Around the Bend" is virtually impossible. I think I've decided to make "non-orange alts" that mean only the pieces you put on the board and not all the orange. Clearing all the orange seemed to be the most popular way to do it in the clean thread, so I went with that, but it could be a good idea to also do this.

Maybe we could have "Around the Bend" just include the lower 4 balls as well? That could be a good idea too.

sccook wrote:Off-Topic Rant:
My solutions posted above illustrate what I don't like about "simplest" threads. There is no functional difference between the three solutions, but only one is the "simplest". On threads like this, you always end up with people who do no work on their own to come up with a solution to a level. They simply take apart other people's solutions and see if they can throw away a piece. I wish that each solution was "read-only" such that you could not edit someone else's solution and then save it.

Yeah, I see your point here, I wish it was only possible to tweak someone else's solution if they gave permission, or maybe they could make a watermark of the original creator. The trouble is, it's often a group effort and so it's usually impossible to list all the people who contributed to it...

I was wondering about starting a "most ingenious contraptions" thread, but that wouldn't really work due to 1) not any way to accurately determine what could be kept in and 2) the impossible task of looking for all these contraptions, it would end up being way bigger than this thread. I would normally include contraptions that aren't the simplest but make you say "WOW that's amazing" but I didn't want to make this thread any more huge than it already is >.< For now, I'm just telling people to post their ingenious solutions in the specific threads, but I know what you mean.

However, mtdewd is also right - if you don't worry about somebody tweaking your design these threads can be a lot of fun Copying is the highest form of compliment, or in this case, tweaking :P

I could take off the author completely, as it doesn't really mean much, but I like to have it as it encourages people to come up with simpler solutions :P

Or I could try to find as many contributors as possible, because of your comments I think I'll do that :P (sometime...

On a Roll Blue Boomerang in 5

It takes a bit too long to settle in the workspace. It gets there in 10 minutes, but it takes a while longer before it finally stays in. Maybe it's possible to tweak it? >.<

@GreenTime - you and your incredibly simple brown catapults should get an award xD I was wondering when you would post a simple brown champ for Unpossible :P (12 pieces OMG :xd:)

it is, you just have to leave only the pink piece in the workspace ;)
