Free levels Speed challenge (compilation in 2nd reply)

Postby Spudgunr on Fri Sep 26, 2008 4:27 am

See gushen's post, the 2nd reply down here. His list is up to date as he had a bit more time and his looked better anyway. We'll keep this thread going so that we have one place to look to get times.

Feel free to update your first post with any new info Spudgunr, in case I fail too badly in keeping my list up to date.

Rules:

- In case of 2 designs or more having the same score, the one with the lowest ID wins.

- Designs making use of glitches or bugs in the game are not considered. Glitches include but are not restricted to: black holes, pinned rods, smashing objects through walls, moving goal pieces outside the building area, and rigged wheels.

- A new creator is assumed if the design is not only faster but also adds something original to the one before (there is a significant difference). Of course that this is not always an easy decision to make (whether the modification is a tweak or a new design) and thus it may be open to discussion. Creators are listed first and are in bold. Tweakers are mentioned in the order that the modifications were made, from left to right.

- Sometimes a competitor will find a great design (in this thread or somewhere else) that doesn't qualify against the current scores, but still gives him inspiration for an even better design. If this happens, the person that inspired the competitor is given credit in the score list through a "inspired by" notice.

Score calculation: Ticks to completion.

Observations:

- The main purpose of this thread is maximizing the scores. Please inform yourself about the latest scores before posting designs.

- Please tell us if you got another person's design and merely tweaked it, so that we can give proper credit.

- The main design links are from a dummy account named fcrecords. I re-save them there in order to keep track of the main records in FC. The reason I do this is because I'm not sure how reliable it is to link to several designs from multiple accounts. The designs could end deleted one day and I'm not sure how long a deleted design stays in the database (mods ?). I'm going to include the original links soon, but preferably only when all levels have been explored to the maximum. Click here to see the published designs for fcrecords.

Ideas, corrections and suggestions are welcome. Please let me know if you find errors of any kind.

This is cool, it needed a topic with scoreboard on first post.

Note on 4 balls, if the ball is partly in start area (which it is) then you can actually move it directly into the goal area before the level even starts, so essentially it would be come "3 balls." Not sure if this should be allowed, or how much it really helps since typically you are limited by the last ball.

Yes, but I did not move it into the goal, I just brought it fully inside the building area. For some unknown reason, it helped me with the time.

EDIT: Flagitious, how many ticks are in a second (according to the game's framerate) ? I ask this because I was checking your Fast and Simple thread and it struck me that you were using a calculation for the score. This means that the results in your thread are not exactly the MOST fast+simple solutions, because then the score would have to be simply "pieces + ticks". In this case, and for instance, your solution for Full-up wins over mine.

So, where should we post new/tweaked designs? This thread or the "old" one?

BTW:

the old one is no longer being updated by Imhahil, and this one is still inaccurate/incomplete, although I'm doing my best to help the OP and update the information on the third post.

Made some obvious tweaks to the boardsurfer design and got Mind the Gap to 22 ticks.
