How Slow can you Go?

Postby mtdewd on Mon Sep 29, 2008 9:20 am

There was a topic a few weeks back about building slow contraptions, but that was more about style.
This is about big numbers. Give me your longest-running successful machines. (Under infinity, please)
Now that we have a timer (press the 't' key), we can measure slowness.

Here's the longest I know of

I'll kick-off with Rolling Away 1008: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2286293

I can see a lot of time being wasted pleasurably spent on this challenge. :)

Reach up 44712 : http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=1483815

that's my old design from the original 'slow' thread. It probably could be shifted a bit to the left to last longer

Concept for rolling away.... needs tweaking

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=2293700

if you can get the ball to roll up and back down the 2nd ramp you'd be in for a slow score.

It's still running so I don't have a link and final time just yet, but I have a contraption that is currently at 13,000,000 and counting. I estimate that it'll go to around 18,000,000 before it finishes. Stay tuned for the link and pictures after it's done.

Wall in 52288 ticks: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3096801
I have a couple other wall solutions running -- let's see if any of them can finish!

Update: One looks stuck... but I really can't tell if it will stay that way. (The link above was stuck for a long time) The other one is making incredibly slow progress: after 90000 ticks, the rear column of the wall is finally wobbling! I haven't any clue if the latter design has a chance of making it over the rubble, though.

U-turn 6845: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3194605

Edit: "Improved" the design for slower forward progress.
U-Turn 15964: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3195011
Ball goes slower when it gets to the top too, for a thousand or so extra ticks. :) And I discovered a bump I never noticed before! Ball turns back around after passing through the goal.

And I'm not to be intimidated by the current Junkyard record holder! I have two Junkyard designs inching along as we speak! (Okay... "inching" is a huge exaggeration.... ;))

Like I said. I very happily welcome challengers. As long as it's your own design.

Let the gauntlet slapping begin!!!
