Dr. Phil's Contraption Assignment Competition

This is A new Challenge somewhat based on the Haphazard Style Competions.

How the game works
-Each person starts out with 100 total points
-Each rod used is -1 point :waterrod: :woodrod:
-Each Unpowered wheel is -1 point :upwheel:
-Each powered wheel used is -2 points :ccwheel: :cwheel:
-Not completing a level is -33 points
The Only way to achieve a positive score is to earn badges.
Team solves will be accepted and put in a different category than singles.

How to earn points(badges)
:green: A green solution: +3 points(use no powered wheels)
:brown: A brown solution: +3 points (only rods/sticks used)
:boomerang: A boomerang solution: +3 points (bring all goal pieces back to the start area)
:champ: A champion solution: +2 points (keep the ball in the goal)
:lightning: A lightning solution: +2 points (beat the level in less than the recommended number of ticks)
:clean: A clean solution: +2 points (clear all remains of your machine from the stage)

Points and Extra Credit
The maximum total score you can possibly earn is a 100/100. You can exceed 100 points by earning extra credit. You can earn 2 extra credit points by earning a like badge in all three levels.
For example, if you got a 100/100 but you got a brown and clean badge for all three levels, then your total score is then 106/100.

Extra Credit values
:boomerang: on all 3 levels: 3 points
:green: on all 3 levels: 2 points
:champ: on all 3 levels: 2 points
:brown: on all 3 levels: 3 points
:clean: on all 3 levels: 3 points
:lightning: on all 3 levels: 2 points
Protip: Just like on a normal test, if you are wise enough, you will know where you can afford to lose points that will be made up by earning the extra credit.

How to score individual assignments
This might be a bit confusing, but hang in there, here is how to score an assignement
    - Start out by adding up the negative points for rods and wheels
    - Make a note of that total
    - Add up the amount of positive points for badge completions
    - Add the 2 numbers together (this is your score for the assignment
    - A score will look like -12, -5, or +1: These are how many points you add or subtract from your starting total (100)

Grading Scale
    100-90 A
    89-80 B
    79-70 C
    69- 60 D
    59-below F

What you could win!
-Boast as being the top of your class
-Having the grades to back up making fun of the failures (upon your choosing to do so)
-A custom made FC avatar of your choice
-Be the example in my next competition
-Be immortalized on the FC forum
-Butterflies, kittens, whistles, lawn gnomes and everything else that runs this game
-The necessity of writing an acceptance post

Assignment 1: Complete one Push up. (Lightning: 140 ticks)
Assignment 2: Input your push up score into the database. (Lightning: 100 ticks)

-To resetxc for listening to my ideas and helping me refine this post
-To all you FC'ers who will hopefully like this comp!

1 down two to go.

Interesting that you are now optimizing for a triple extra credit.

Edit: 2 down one to go

I'm confused.

The maximum total score you can possibly earn is a 100/100. You can exceed 100 points by earning extra credit. You can earn 2 extra credit points by earning a like badge in all three levels.

For example, if you got a 100/100 but you got a brown and clean badge for all three levels, then your total score is then 104/100.

:brown: on all 3 levels: 3 points
:clean: on all 3 levels: 3 points

Wouldn't that be 106/100?

And when are the levels going up? Or am I just not seeing them?

what do you mean?
Edit: Going to bed, but im assuming that your question is about extra credit, you can only get extra credit if all 3 designs share a common badge

Level1: :brown: :champ:
Level2: :brown: :champ: :boomerang:
Level3: :brown: :champ: :boomerang:

In this example you get extra credit for brown and champ only

Hey, who wants a partner. I can't seem to beat all 3 levels with a good enough score to even submit. But with a little help I'm sure we can have this wrapped up.

Please PM me if interested and I'll share my ideas with you.

Or said another way, (assuming I understand the rules), a one- :woodrod: :champ: :lightning: is good. It would be 100-1+2+2=103 for the level. However, you only get the :champ: or :lightning: extra credit if the other two levels are also :champ: or :lightning: .

I think.

The score calculator has been updated to support multiple designs:

Extra credit is now tabulated!

Another question about scoring...

Lets say I complete every level with one brown stick, and green and brown are the only badges I get. My score for each would be +5. Putting this in the handy calculator, my pre-extra credit score would be capped at 100%, and then I would get +3 and +2 for green and brown on all three, giving me 105%. So I'm wondering, no matter how well you do on the levels individually, the pre-extra credit score is capped at 100? And the ONLY way to raise your score above that is through the extra credit?

It seems as if this scoring style is going to screw a lot of us up because we're used to the whole ":brown: Only" mantra. A :green: :brown: solution is the same amount of points as a :green::boomerang: score. Also, :ccwheel: :cwheel: are only 1 point more than :waterrod: :woodrod: so for extra credit purposes it seems it may actually be better to go with Non-:brown: solutions in order to secure multiple badges across all levels.

That is correct.

So that means the entire comp is based on extra credit...not really what the levels score since getting 100% is not difficult.
