I've spent some considerable time trying to solve Unpossible with a trebuchet. I got close with some, but once the weight gets heavy enough to propel the ball far enough it never seems to save properly -- and rarely plays well. Here's an earlier step in one of the builds:

Even at that point in the build, which has about 1/3 the weight it needs, it only plays okay about every second run. I still suspect it's possible though.

Hahaha, I'm going to have to say that you have to at least use 1 stick. If the length of that stick is shorter than my solution, then that is simpler. Also, if you use a water rod, that is simpler. Though I don't know if you can do it with a water rod. It might look something like this: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=217696

using no wheels, i got one for new 07, there is probably a much easier way to do this with no wheels, but here it is
