The Massive Mass Competition 2! Winner!

Postby Dean-o on Thu Sep 09, 2010 4:17 pm

Seven months ago, during a time when the Fantastic Contraption Forum was thriving with activity, a young, up-and-coming Contraptionista held a clash so intense, he created an atmosphere so competitive, that once the ultimate victor was declared, the masses were left begging for more.
The masses wrote:Probably the most fun comp I have ever entered so far. Make more comps! Encore! Encore!

And they were promised exactly that.
The ever-elusive host wrote:I shall.

With just those two syllables, the creator had captured the hearts and minds of many a contender.
And so the masses were left to wait...
And wait...
But wait, they shall no more.
The time has come for long-forgotten commitments to be fulfilled!
And so it shall be...

Welcome, to both those returning and newcomers alike, to the Massive Mass Competition 2!

Seven months ago, I wrote:Rules:
Every round there will be a new level, and you will submit a solve with the required badges. Each round, slightly less than the bottom half of all eligible entrants will be eliminated until there is a winner. The winner of every round will gain an advantage for the next round, a reduction of 200 mass units from their score. Only raw, unreduced scores count for the next reduction. This will go on until the finals. The winner will be the last man standing.

The results will always be on time unless otherwise specified, and the deadlines are set in stone.

Scoring:
The deciding factor in each round is the total mass of your design. Lightest designs are best. To find the mass, change your design's URL from
http://fantasticcontraption.com/?designId=xxx to
http://fantasticcontraption.com/design?designId=xxx and click on "Statistics". Your score is the mass in mass units.

PM your submissions. Multiple submissions are allowed.

There will be a leaderboard for the Qualifier, for Round 1, and for Round 2.

Guest solves are welcome.

In.

You know, I haven't done a comp in a long time. I wonder if I'm still as bad at this game as I was before?

Why?

When you make a design you can put things right up to the outer edge of the border, so why should they have to be within the inside of the border to count as being back in the build area?

It doesn't affect me, just seems weird, and it might be annoying later on.

I think it would be reasonable to ask for a slither of dark blue :)

That's a given :) Also, it may have to be a bit more than that.

Are there eliminations in the qualifier?

I probably wont be able to get on the internet to complete round 1 but there is a small chance :)

Don't extend it. If I can't get on it will be for over a week. :(

Okay, that marks 10 entrants. Many more to come, right :)? Waffle still claims top spot.
EDIT: Not any more! patacoman pulls ahead! Get going, Waffy!
EDIT 2: Bump :( Why no chatter?

Yes you will :)
EDIT: 16 entrants :)
EDIT 2: Daily bump, one day left, then we can get started.
EDIT 3: A few hours left to enter and improve.
Also: because 17 people have joined so far, and it would be a bit awkward to eliminate 1 person in r1 and then 8 in r2 there's going to be a new elimination pattern. One of these:
1) i go from 17 to 8 to 4 to 2 to 1
2) i eliminate slightly less than half each round, something like 17 to 10 to 6 to 3 to 2 to 1

what do you guys think?

went with 2. exact numbers still TBD. 20 entrants would be awesome because i could go 20 - 12 - 7 - 4 - 2 - 1 :P
EDIT: Round 1! Don't worry, levels get better!
EDIT 2: 7, rather than 8, people will be eliminated in r1.
EDIT 3: Submit!!

Can you take away my reduction and trade it in for immunity?

It would be stupid if I won every round because of the reduction
