[Solution] Can't log in?

Postby ID36 on Sun Jan 02, 2011 5:18 am

Hi FCers,

I've read about people - the most recent being RingKingLeo - having issues with the log-in screen due to the erratic behaviour of the forums. I experienced this for myself today. After entering my username and password, I was told that I had made "too many login attempts", when I hadn't, and asked to enter a captcha, but the page went back to the login screen before the captcha was displayed. Even if you time it right and click stop before the page refreshes, the captcha is never displayed.

Here's a quick tip to get around the problem if this ever happens to you.
1) Enter your username and password.
2) Hover your mouse over the 'stop' button on your browser and hit the 'enter' key.
3) As soon as you see the red error message page load, hit stop.
4) Save the web-page to your desktop but don't close the window.
5) Find and run the web-page from your desktop (file name 'ucp.php')
6) You'll see that the captcha is displayed and that the page doesn't refresh.
7) Now enter that captcha on the original FC forum login screen that you left open.

Assuming you entered the correct username and password, you should now be logged in.

The first time I tried, after running the page from my desktop, it just came up as a blank white page.
I deleted the page from my desktop and tried again, but this time when I ran the page from my desktop, it brought me to the original login page

same here, im getting up to step 5.... im not getting a blank white page, but it is simply just loading the original login page from what is saved on the desktop.

I have the warning page open, and this is way tough to stop it just in time, whew ... lol

when i do step 6, (running the page from the desktop) it brings me to the original login page, which has no captcha.... leaving nothing to enter back into the "stopped" page... I have yet to see the captcha letters/numbers at any login refresh/reload/re-run from deskstop attempt to type back in

If it helps, I was using Firefox. As soon as I saw the page below (minus the captcha), I hit stop and chose 'Save Page As...' I then selected the type as 'Web Page, complete'. It will save the webpage to your desktop along with a folder called 'ucp.php_files' that go with it.

Im using safari Mac OSX.... the only way i can save the page is to drag the link to the desktop directly from the browser. This browser has a "save" option, but for some reason, "save as" is disabled under "file" (its there, but its in light type, not bold like the others i.e. disabled for this page)

The keyboard shortcut is command S, but its not working. I may have to download firefox. I will get back to you on this.... thank you greatly for your help.

OMG so close!

I tried saving it this time (last time I was actually just getting a shortcut) but it still took me to the original login page

I found a different way to get the code that involved enabling compatibility mode. I got it to stop at the page with the confirmation code, but when I entered my login info and the code, it just said I was using an incorrect password, which is a lie! I can log onto the fc game with it fine

It's possible to have a different password from the forum and the game. Request a forum password reset to your email address and you will definitely have no question of the password being wrong.

hmm, im wondering why the emailed "reset" password doesnt simply just log me in... it just doesnt make sense, because i can log in and out with this alternative account all day long. A password is a password. There can only be 1.

Is there a forum administrator alive? or is this forum a dead deal?

Technically Sparkworkz are the administrators although I don't know how much they're able to help.

I asked for a password reset and it said it e-mailed me a new password, but it didn't actually. I tried multiple times and waited like 5 minutes for the email to arrive, but still nothing

Did you use the "I forgot my password" link as shown in the image above that I posted?

yea, i talked to captain sparky.... he couldnt help... or wouldnt

to edit my post about only being 1 password..... i meant, its got to either be my original, or the one sent to me in email.... it is blowing my mind as to why neither of them will work when i can log in and out with this alternative account at any given time. Thats whats not making sense.

Ive resent a temp password about 15 times now .... lol... im pretty sure the FC one and the forum one are not the same at this point, however, regardless..... the one that is being sent should log me in. (although ive tried both vigorously) Im not understanding what the captcha has to do with it, because its just an alternative scripting method to send the same password data to the server.

I will try to download firefox this afternoon and follow your instructions again. Thats about all i can do i guess. It just doesnt make sense.

Is there any way to get the captcha data from the "view source" code?

Im getting good at stopping the page, but, due to stoppage, it doesnt have time to download the captcha image.

My saved page shows a box where the image "should" be, but its simply a little box with a question mark in it.

OMG, ... to get the captcha to show up, i have to first "stop" the page quickly with the stop button in that millisecond... then click the refresh button and stop it again when the image loads because its not on the 1st "stop".... I saw that sucker for a flash of a second on the second refresh... LMAO...

I have yet to be speedy enough to get it... ill try this later...

YES THANKS SO MUCH GUYS

Thanks to all your help I was finally able to log in, and i'm never logging back out ever again.
I ended up logging in by resetting my password and activating compatibilty mode to get the captcha to show up ( still had to stop it, but it changed even faster this time, took like 15 tries :P)
